Study and Part-time work options

One of the norms for all visa students is they have to maintained the full time status through out the duration of their visa. International students will have to be enrolled in full time study through out their stay in Canada.

Applicants enrolled in full time program in University or Community College in Canada for a minimum of one year, are considered to be eligible for open work permit upon the completion of their program. Completion of one year full time program makes you eligible for one year open work permit and 2 or more years program will give you three years of work permit.

Post 6 months of a student’s full time study, international students are allowed filing off-campus work permit.

This will allow international students to work part time i.e. 20 hours/week simultaneously while studying full time.

The eligibility to file work permit depends on several other factors like academic performance, advisor recommendation, attendance and so on.

Students would require off-campus work permit along with the S.I.N (Social insurance number) to work off- campus.

SIN number can filed from any of the service Canada office once the student has received the job offer or off campus work permit.

Nevertheless students can work on campus from the day one and wouldn’t require any work permit.

Libraries, Book Stores, Food stalls, bar, café, are some of the places on campus where students work.

Co-op plays important role in acquiring Canadian experience while on international student status during full time study in any community college.

Scholarships options

Students may apply to various scholarships and funding depending on the program they choose. Unlike undergraduate course, graduate students enrolled in full time Masters or PhD. programs normally receives some funding from the university. The funding would be in the form of TA (Teaching Assistanceship) or RA (Research Assistantship) and the level of funding depends entirely on the departments and the program supervisor.
